Alabama Bass Guide - First week of March report
Man! What a crazy week of fishing on Guntersville with highs and lows. There have been times the fish would make you think you are crazy because you couldn't buy a bite, but then you make some adjustments and start getting bit instantly. The biggest issue with the fishing on Guntersville right now is the stained water with the crazy flow we have had through the river. We have a good population of Florida strain bass and these conditions just shut them down. With this warming trend and sunny days we will have good fishing in March!
The main adjustment we made was sticking with the 4.5 inch little head 4.5 from True Bass Swimbaits. Best colors this week were True Blue, Green Bean, 99 Problems, Hot Sauce, and R2D2. We caught fish on every color! The main thing with these baits is the tight natural action for this cooler water. 1/2 - 3/4 ounce head. We threw them everywhere to bridges, points, underwater grass. We never had a spot we could where them out, but mainly just ran the pattern across the lake. On Wednesday we caught 17 fish with our biggest right around 5 lbs.
I have Monday 7th, and Wednesday 9th, available to fish next week! Also I have the 23, 24, 28, 29 available. Should be great dates for smallmouth fishing on Pickwick! :)
