Smallmouth fishing is some of the most exhilarating fishing you will ever do. Especially fishing for southern smallmouth on Pickwick Lake in the fall. You can catch smallmouth bass on topwater lures. You can catch smallmouth bass on swimbaits... and as always you can catch smallmouth bass on shaky heads, ned rigs, and jigs!
My preferred technique for fishing for smallmouth in the fall is topwater!! You will see some of the best strikes you will ever see in your life. Once they decide they don't want topwater I transition to the swimbait. Swimbaits are incredible tools to fool smallmouth. Especially when they are gorging themselves full of shad to fuel up for the winter. My favorite one for in the fall is the True Bass Big Minner 4.0. Its a 4 inch swimbait that perfectly matches the size of the shad they are feasting on! My favorite colors for this time of year are 99 Problems, Winner Minner, and Citron.
